All That Being Said: A New Era for Gaming Uncensored

A Brief History:

Jamie and I started Gaming Uncensored when were college students ways back in 2005. It began as a 2-hour weekly radio program that aired on Saturdays from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in our small part of the Texas panhandle. We quickly created a companion show that was distributed via this newfangled technology called podcasting.

The rig we recorded the podcast on was my desktop computer, with its massive 40-gig hard drive, and my 56k dial-up internet. Side note – the term Yeti with a Modem is a nod to the day I got broadband (and my excessive fuzziness), which was several months after we started. I used an Xbox headset microphone (the Xbox 360 hadn’t even been released yet). Jamie used a cheap dynamic microphone that was hanging from the ceiling by its cable. We recorded with a program called Cool Edit, which I pirated. Have I mentioned I’m an audio professional and educator now?

We did the radio show for a year until I graduated from college. We decided that we would continue the podcast even after we stopped the radio show. In 2006, I moved to Memphis, TN. We decided to still do the podcast via Skype. That has its challenges, but we eventually figured it out and have been going fairly consistently since then. I now live in Dallas, TX and Jamie still lives in the panhandle. And we still do the show via Skype… for some reason.

The show has been a loose two hours-ish format that we do every week… err… every other week… err… maybe twice a month… if we’re lucky. We used to be more consistent, but life and jobs and now a kid have made that more challenging. So now, after 13+ years of doing this thing, we’re making some changes.

What’s Not Changing:

The heart of Gaming Uncensored that you’ve come to love isn’t going anywhere. The show will still be Jamie and me rambling on about video games. The podcast is here to stay for the foreseeable future. We will still do extra content – hopefully significantly more of it, especially for the guys supporting us on Patreon. The Round Table will continue and we will still do E4 each year (our own spin on E3 coverage).

What Is Changing:

The biggest change will be a new show format. We are moving from irregular two hours-ish shows to a more consistent, weekly one hour show. The goal is to actually provide more content, as a one hour show will be easier to do on a regular basis, and thus you’ll be hearing more hours of us talking each month, if you so choose. With the format change, we will be tightening the show some and experimenting with some new concepts and segments. We’d love to hear your ideas.

We have also updated our website and branding (as you can already see on this here website you’re visiting). The Gaming Uncensored look has been mostly the same since the beginnings of this show, so it’s nice to have something fresh 13+ years later. The new look will be reflected on Twitter, Facebook, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, etc.

We’re both also committing to provide more content, both to the general website and to our Patreon supporters. You guys have been so wonderfully supportive of us that it’s the least we can do. And if you’re not a supporter on Patreon yet, this is a great time to do it. There’s lots of content on the way. There’s a button at the bottom of this post or over there on the side.

We love doing this show and getting to know you guys. We love playing video games and talking about them, even when wrong. After all, we are just two schmucks talking. Hopefully, that’s what you’re here for. And we plan to be here for you for many more years to come!
