Top 10 Video Game Characters

The characters in video games represent our escape vessels into virtual worlds. Here are the top 10 game characters of all time according to Gaming Uncensored.

10: Luigi

The affable “other” plumber. He represents all of us who are not the hero. His presence is always felt in the Mario universe, but his only starring roles reinforce the lovable loser stigma. Emphasis on lovable.

9: Master Chief

Behind that armored facade is a kind hearted man who loves puppies. Just kidding. That guy lives to kick tail. Covenant tail. Flood tail. Your tail. Doesn’t matter.

8: Duke Nukem

One liners and mass carnage. He was the coolest character in video games in 90s. Hail to the King!

7: Sephiroth

He was a complex villain that terrified you, but that you also wanted to understand. He perpetrated one of the most heart breaking moments in video game history, and yet you still wanted to get inside his head.

6: Lara Croft

She is a female protagonist loved for her strength and, for many, her appearance. She’s not without controversy, but love it or hate it, she has forever impacted video game history.

5: GLaDOS

Snarky, mean, and funnier than us. The quick witted, sarcastic AI that tries to lead you to your demise through Portal set a new bar for lovable antagonists.

4: Solid Snake/Big Boss

Yes, it’s technically two characters, but not really… right? We don’t know. Metal Gear makes our brains hurt. But that gravelly-voiced tactical soldier technically portrayed in two characters will always be a bad bad man.

3: Samus Aran

He was the super soldier that conquered solitude and saved the world. Except he was a she. And she continues to be awesome.

2: Link

Other than people thinking his name is Zelda, there’s no doubt that Link is awesome. Adventure after adventure, he finds a way to save the girl with the best gadgets and an awesome hat.

1: Mario

Of course Mario is number one. He’s a plumber, for crying out loud. If you’ve ever found yourself in need of a plumber, you understand their value. And he’s Italian. Ok, so he’s a weird video game character. But somehow he has become the de facto video game character, and we’re okay with that.
